CMA CGM has announced the launch of a new weekly service that will link North Greece with Egypt and South Turkey. This new service, called GETEX – Greece Egypt Turkey Express, will commence on 5 October 2021, departing from Thessaloniki port. It will run a ten-day frequency and will be operated by a single vessel with a nominal capacity of 850TEU.
The new ferry route will connect North Greece with Egypt and South Turkey for the first time. The Greek-Turkish agreement will bring back legality to the area and eliminate the need for a land bridge. Previously, Turkey and Egypt had disputed the maritime border. But the agreement is a clear win-win for all three nations.
