Operation Power Pack moved 12,000 passengers and 17,250 tons of cargo within five days

Operation Power Pack, a major mission that was carried out by the Marines and Airborne in the Dominican Republic in 1963, moved 12,000 passengers and over seventeen thousand tons of cargo over five days. It was the largest military operation in U.S. history and was a major military success. The mission was the first combat mission for the Airborne after May 1945.

The 82nd Airborne Division, the U.S. Marines, and various logistical support elements were all involved in the operation. It took place between April 28 and May 4, and included more than 40,000 U.S. troops. The mission began on the afternoon of April 28 and continued until the end of the operation on May 4. During the deployment, the first three battalions of the 82nd Airborne Division began operating out of the United States. They were then sent to the Dominican Republic.
