The Three Phases of Powerlink Communication

There are three phases in a POWERLINK data communication cycle. The first phase involves sending an initial frame, known as a “Start of Cycle” frame, to all CNs. In the second phase, payload data is exchanged between all CNs. The third phase is the end-of-cycle phase, during which the CNs synchronize their own data with the other CNs. Each phase contains the data exchanged between CNs.

Energex transitional charges

The Energex tariff includes capital expenditure for a low-voltage management platform. The Ethernet Powerlink standard includes a master-slave time-slot mechanism that can help achieve determinism.


The Queensland government is attempting to turn around the fortunes of Powerlink with a proposed $10 billion sale. It’s not entirely clear why the government is so hesitant to divest these businesses, but it seems like the state has no confidence that private ownership will bring more discipline to the companies. If the government has no confidence in the private sector, then it should sell them. The government’s plan to create a holding company has been stalled pending the market sounding. The State Government has made clear to the network and distribution businesses that they expect them to operate in the most cost-efficient manner possible, in order to maintain downward pressure on prices.

Tata Power’s joint venture with Powerlinks Transmission

The joint venture between Tata and Power Grid Corporation of India, or PGCI, is a major project that will help the country build a new transmission line. The line will stretch from the Tala Hydro project in Bhutan to Delhi and will provide a parallel 400 kV corridor from the Unnao-Kanpur-Lucknow area. It will also help strengthen the East-North corridor.
